Georgia Hospitals Welcome First “529 Day Babies” with a Contribution to College Savings
On May 29, Piedmont Columbus Regional and Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta, in partnership with the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan, welcomed the first “529 Day Babies” at each hospital.
Danny Lake in Columbus and Hayden Tramble in Augusta were each awarded $1,529 for their Path2College 529 Plan savings accounts

States across the country recognize May 29–known as 529 Day– as a day to raise awareness about each state’s 529 plan and the importance of saving for college.
“Throughout the year we promote the benefit of financial planning for future education goals. The 529 Day Baby celebration raises awareness of Georgia’s college savings plan and will inspire families to utilize the resources we have to help them save,” said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley.
Families who welcome a new baby in 2022 also have an opportunity to win money for their newborn’s college savings. Parents, grandparents and guardians of Georgia babies born in 2022 may go to www.Path2College529.com until April 14, 2023, for official rules, prize details and to enter for a chance to win the 2022 Newborn Sweepstakes.
